The Scriven Martial Arts club was founded in 1995 by Andrew Scriven.

Classes are held in Seaford, Lewes, Brighton, Hove, Shoreham by Sea and Haywards Heath. The club caters for Little Ninjas (3-8 years), Juniors (9-12 years) and Adults. Family membership is welcomed.

	WHAT IS SOO BAHK DO?

• Soo Bahk Do is a martial art system that originates from Korea.

• A self defense system which concentrates on using defense moves and avoidance techniques in an
effective and controlled manner.

	HOW CAN IT BENEFIT ME?

• Developing a life skill, which is both challenging and rewarding offers many potential benefits to the student.

• Improved physical conditioning, greater flexibility, good coordination and balance, more strength
and stamina contribute to a general sense of confidence and well being.

• Training in Soo Bahk Do increases awareness and sharpness reaction, both physical and mental.

• It also helps the student to manage the stresses and tensions of every day life.

• The objective is to improve the individual and the quality of life.

	CAN ANYBODY TRAIN?

• Yes, all ages are encouraged to participate in the club activities.

• For example, the 'Little Ninjas' training program is specifically geared to the needs of the tiny tots. The 'Junior' program caters for youngsters up to the age of 12 years of age.

• Families are welcome to train together which produces some interesting results!

• Whilst training benefits 'individuals' it is very much a team effort that contributes to the
achievements of each class as a whole.

	WHAT MAKES SOO BAHK DO DIFFERENT FROM OTHER ARTS?

• Soo Bahk Do is an evolving system. New techniques and refinements to existing techniques are introduced into the training syllabus at regular intervals.

• Students are counselled on an ongoing basis by their assigned instructors.

• Your instructor has been trained to a high standard of competence and is available during and out of lesson time to deal with any issues of concern.

• Quality instruction at a reasonable price is an important Soo Bahk Do objective.

	WILL MY PROGRESS BE MONITORED?

• Yes, each student is given a set of training objectives and is assessed at regular intervals.

• Instruction is modular, that is, for each specific grade (or belt) there is a requisite number of techniques to be learned.

• The training program is uniform throughout the world, so students visiting other clubs or attending events in another countries will be familiar with the techniques being taught.

	ABOUT THE ORGANISATION?

• Soo Bahk Do (Tang Soo Do) Moo Duk Kwan is one of the most popular forms of Korean martial arts. Hundreds of thousands of students practice the art throughout the world.

• The style was originally known as 'Tang Soo Do' but reverted to the traditional name in the late 1980's. Some Tang Soo Do schools continue to practice in the UK but unconnected from the founder of the style.

• The world headquarters is located in Seoul in Korea under the direction of Grandmaster H C Hwang.

• The UK Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation overseas the activities of the UK clubs and is a member of the European Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation.

• Seminars are held in the UK and overseas each year which gives practitioners the opportunity to meet students from other countries.

• Meeting people and developing new friendships is an important part of the martial art.

	HOW DO I JOIN ?

	Either contact Andy or Bob Scriven or come to one of our lessons at any of the venues. You will have an instructor on a one to one basis initially to familiarise you with the basics, to answer any questions and deal with your concerns. So what are you waiting for TRY IT NOW !!
